Sissi - Insight outside

Hi everybody,

About four weeks ago we had to cope with an enormous disappointment; I’d been struggling with my health for a while and that has effected my voice, so we had to cancel all our shows in February. After that I could use a little diversion.
A couple of months ago I was asked by Ingeborg Steenhorst and Cristel Brouwer (my friend who also did the shoot for In Control) to cooperate on a new project that’s called Insight outside.
Here’s a little information about it and you can also go to their myspace for more information.

Insight Outside is an art project by Dutch fashion designer Ingeborg Steenhorst, Dutch photographer Cristel Brouwer and Belgium photographer/graphic designer Katrijn Michiels. The project is going to feature art-fashion, costume design, art-photography and music.
They invite (solo)musicians from within the rock scene whose music inspire them while creating their works of art to become models in this project. Together they are not only going to make a unique art collection but they also support 1WE– One World Experience.

The purpose of this project is to discover the musician hidden personalities by metamorphosing them into their favorite historical, fiction or non-fiction character and reveal this to the world in a collection of unique art photos.

It is their goal in 2010 to exhibit all photos on large canvas prints at several concert venues and art galleries in Europe. Besides the exhibition they will publish a photo book from the project and produce postcards & posters and maybe some other merchandise. All to benefit 1WE– One World Experience.

So when I was asked I immediately thought: “This is great! Of course I’ll do this!”
Through email I had a lot of contact with Ingeborg, who would make the costume for the shoot. She asked me all kinds of creepy questions like what my size and my weight are, how long my legs are and the size of my cup. Very scary!  Haha!

I chose to be Elisabeth of Bavaria, also known as Sissi. She was the Empress consort of Austria and Queen consort of Hungary.
When I was a little girl I always watched the movie with Romy Schneider together with my mum. I was always talking about the wonderful dresses she wore. Beautiful!
So now I had the chance to wear a dress like that!

And it was amazing! Ingeborg did a great job. The dress existed of 7 skirts and a very tight corset! So I had an enormous behind and a very small waist. I almost couldn’t breathe! I also wore a wig with little white flowers.
I really felt like a princes from the 19th century! (The creepy questions weren’t for nothing! )

I know Cristel for a couple of years now so I felt really safe with her in front of the camera. She makes amazing pictures and I can imagine why Ingeborg and Katrijn want to work with her.

I’m pretty curious about what Katrijn will do with the pictures but I guess I have to wait a while before seeing the final images.

So that was a nice ending of a week that started out not too well.
I want to thank Cristel, Ingeborg and Katrijn for this opportunity and Christien van Bergen who did the make-up that day! You all did a great job!
